FMB Radio & Partners Launch London Community Space

On the 6th of June, some of the FMB Radio team travelled to London to assist our partners, Rafiki Wema, Galbur Foundation, and the Al-abrar Foundation launch their new community studio space. Writing about the experience is FMB Radio’s Ben Mellor.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the value of coming together as a community has never been more important. Alongside traditional community venues, the launch of the new community studio in Finnsbury Park provides people from any background to speak about their human experiences – educating and inspiring all those around.

The event commenced with a presentation by Omar Mohammed, the Project Manager of Rafiki Wema, who spoke about the importance of community. This was followed by speakers highlighting the importance of mental health & community. Finally, the presentation was closed by Islington Councillor Bashir Ibrahim.

What followed was a ribbon cutting ceremony by both of the attending councillors, Bashir Ibrahim and Ibrahim Ali. Afterwards, both councillors took part in an interview which was broadcast live using FMB Radio’s output channels.

The evening came to a close with over thirty local children entering the new studio to get comfortable and familiar with the space – with many showing an interest in producing their own podcasts.

FMB Radio was proud to assist in the construction of the studio space, the interviewing of politicians, and showing local children how the technology worked.

If you are interested in using this new space, located N4 3JH, contact Rafiki Wema at 0203 3369 313 or email info@rafikiwema.org.
