This week we tried a new cafĂ© in the Lace Market – that specialises in coffee and build your own egg brunches called Yolk. Reviewing this egg-cellent location is FMB Radio’s Hope Gallagher.
When my parents come to visit Nottingham, they are always keen to try new and independent places. This time they chose Yolk.
Yolk offers a variety of coffees, syrups, and smoothies – as well as a small brunch menu. Whilst the menu is on the smaller size there is definitely something for everyone!
The brunch works through giving a choice of traditional brunch options, but you are able to choose the way you want your eggs cooked. We all ordered different things; the royale with poached eggs, the full English with fried egg, and the benedict with scrambled eggs. It is safe to say we were all impressed and agreed we had never had eggs cooked this good before.
Inside the coffee shop is quite small, but an extremely cute interior. Whilst I went on a gloomy day there is also seating outside for those who lose out to bookings, which make for a lovely trip on a sunny day. They do take walk-ins, but you can also book on the website.
There was a bit of a wait on food, but in fairness, it was a busy time – the inside seating area was full, with people starting to sit outside. However, the staff were very apologetic about this.
Speaking of, all the staff were friendly and happy to help, checking up on us whenever we might need anything!
The prices are mid-range, but I would honestly expect higher prices from a coffee shop that specialises in a certain type of food. Admittedly, I may have thought this due to the stereotype of quirky independent coffee shops, nevertheless I was pleasantly surprised.
If you are looking for a new brunch spot and have a craving for something egg-cellent then this is the place to go!
