The role requires strong fundamentals, a passion to push the boundaries of technology and the tenacity to ensure the success of your creations. Our product requirements push the limits of physical possibility, demanding extreme attention detail and the highest standard of performance, quality and manufacturability. Our team drives collaboration with many engineering groups— team players only. Tesla moves quickly, so being self-motivated and disciplined is critical. You must be passionate, but direction changes quickly, so you must also be resilient. Our team is responsible for the performance, safety, reliability, and scalability of every automotive HV battery product at Tesla.

What You'll Do

Full product design responsibility, from concept through production launch and rampAdvancing product performance while driving down cost and massDeveloping new technologies, supported with early process developmentHands-on prototypingSpecification definition (dimensional, functional, performance, manufacturing)Meticulous release of 2D part and assembly drawingsOwning basic testing and analysis; supporting advanced testing and analysisRoot causing test failures and production problemsCollaboration with other teams inside Tesla (manufacturing, testing, NPI, supply chain, etc.)Close, active supplier relationships

What You'll Bring

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experienceStrong Engineering fundamentals in heat transfer, fluids, mechanics, and electronicsDesire to own a lot and work hard - we have small teams and fast timelinesDemonstrated ability to create products: CAD design to hand on prototypingExperience with various manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding, metal stamping, thermoforming, welding/brazing, plating, heat treating, and bonding. Direct machine shop skills a plusExperience in designing for high volume assembly, both manual and automatedExperience defining test plans, designing test setups, and analyzing dataA detail oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skillsProficiency in CAD modeling. CATIA V5/V6 experience a plus but not mandatoryExperience with student Formula Vehicle, Solar Car, Hyperloop etc. a plus

Expected Compensation

$106,400 - $256,200/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
