Job Description

   Position Job Title:                     Underwriter
FLSA Status:                 Non - Exempt
Job Location: Remote - Florida

Position Summary.
The primary function of the Underwriter is for underwriting residential mortgage loans for the New Home Co. Examine loan documentation for accuracy and completeness to ensure loans meet eligibility requirements and to mitigate risk or loss to the company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities.
  • Review all loan submissions submitted by origination staff and generate initial credit decision in accordance with FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA, Bond and other investor guidelines as well as internal overlays.
  • Evaluate mortgage loan applications to determine eligibility, acceptability, and compliance with applicable state, federal and investor guidelines. 
  • Perform credit and property analysis on conventional and government loan files.
  • Analyze complex tax returns and accurately calculate income.
  • Input data and notes into the Encompass loan system.
  • Maintain quality and production standards as set forth by management.
  • Effectively communicate, orally, in writing, and via email, the decisions reached as to maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and customers.

This position does not supervise other employees.

Position Qualifications
  • Highschool diploma; or general education degree (GED) required
  • 4-year college degree preferred
  • Direct Endorsement (DE) and/or LAPP/SAR certifications
  • Must have working knowledge of Encompass or other LOS systems
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Conventional and Government underwriting experience.
  • Superior knowledge of and experience with property and credit underwriting requirements of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA and VA, as well as other loan programs and private mortgage insurance companies
  • Capability of working in a fast-paced environment, under pressure and meet time-sensitive deadlines, all while maintaining a high level of professionalism
  • Superior analytical, organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently, analyze data, take and recommend appropriate actions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exhibit professional written and verbal communication
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with others both internal and external
  • Demonstrated judgment and decision-making ability
  • Strong attention to detail, organization skills and follow-through capabilities

     

Base Salary: The compensation range for this position is between $80,000 and $90,000per year, depending on experience and skillset. Base Salary is paid bi-weekly, every other Friday with an opportunity for monthly or quarterly bonuses.

Physical Requirements
Requires the ability to bend, lift 1-15 pounds, reach, see, stand, sit, walk, hear, type and talk. The primary work location is an office setting with low to moderate noise level.
