Sterile Processing Technician

Location: Long Beach, CA

Job Type: Contract (13 Weeks | Contract-to-Perm Opportunity)

Shift: 2nd Shift

Hours: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM

Schedule: 40 hours/week | 8 hours/day | 5 days/week

Pay Rate: $28/hour

Candidate Type: Local candidates only

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician to support daily sterile processing operations in a fast-paced clinical environment. This onsite role is responsible for the safe decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments in compliance with regulatory standards and manufacturer instructions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform decontamination, cleaning, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments and trays

  • Operate and monitor autoclaves, washer disinfectors, and related SPD equipment

  • Ensure compliance with ANSI/AAMI standards, infection control policies, and manufacturer IFUs

  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and integrity

  • Accurately document sterilization cycles and instrument tracking data

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

  • Collaborate effectively with SPD team members and perioperative staff

  • Identify and report equipment issues, tray discrepancies, or process deviations

  • Support continuous workflow in a high-volume, fast-paced setting

Required Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on Sterile Processing experience

  • Strong understanding of surgical instrumentation and SPD workflows

  • Experience with steam sterilization and infection control best practices

  • Familiarity with ANSI/AAMI standards and manufacturer IFUs

  • Proficiency in operating SPD equipment (autoclaves, washers, etc.)

  • Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity

  • Ability to multitask and meet production timelines

  • Basic computer skills and electronic documentation experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Reliable, professional, and team-oriented

Education & Certification Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)

Certification:

  • Active Sterile Processing Technician Certification ( CRCST, CIS, or equivalent ) required
