Job Summary

Responsible for providing expert technical leadership, guidance, strategic planning, and advanced support for the technical infrastructure (BASIS) of the SAP system. Manages SAP Basic portion of major IS projects (greater than $500,000) in support of business requirements. Supports management in ensuring that departmental procedures, policies, and standards are followed by all staff members. Continually enhances departmental knowledge and skills. Coaches and mentors less experienced team members. 

Essential Functions  

• Oversees day-to-day technical tasks and ensures they are completed for ongoing operation of SAP systems and to comply with internal/external regulations. 
• Actively builds and maintains relationships with internal/external SAP support personnel and users to resolve system issues and document policies and procedures in order to support the operation of the SAP system. 
• Analyzes expanding business requirements to ensure SAP Basis support for new systems and instances and for upgrades and maintenance to the SAP server infrastructure. 
• Oversees SAP system, database, operating system, and transaction tuning to ensure the best possible response times for the end-users of the SAP system. 
• Develops, communicates, and implements proper security measures in order to provide data integrity and confidentiality of information. Ensures the maintenance of operating system and network access to protect critical SAP system objects. 
• Applies SAP software corrections, including SAP OSS notes and SAP support packages. 
• Oversees the configuration, administration, and maintenance of SAP change control functions and communication interfaces. 
• Develops, maintains, and documents SAP system operating procedures including backup and recovery of the SAP system, system error detection procedures, database reorganization, and SAP background job scheduling. Configures and resolves problems with the operation of the SAP spool and background job systems. 
• Recommends, documents, and executes SAP data archiving procedures. Ensures SAP data is retained for future IRS and internal auditing requirements. 
• Oversees department staff with the installation and maintenance of new SAP front-end installations (SAPGUI). 
• Develops and communicates company policies and procedures for all BASIS related configuration standards and system resources. 
• Develops training and assistance to MIS personnel and end-users on efficient use of the SAP system and system resources. 
• Works with Management to define, develop, implement, and communicate SAP Basis department policy and standards, ensuring that they are followed by all staff members. Prepares and conducts formal presentations concerning major projects and new technology directions for management. 
• Provides expert level troubleshooting and ensures documentation of application performance issues. Solicits and provides feedback, coaching, mentoring, and guidance of department best practices from/to senior team members and management. 
• Serves as SAP Basis lead on major IS projects (total project budget greater than $500,000) and participates on multi-functional project teams as required to support business requirements. Provides on-call and after-hours scheduled support on a rotational basis to fulfill production and project needs. 
• Identifies, investigates, evaluates, and becomes proficient in new technologies and technical disciplines that are of strategic significance to the business organization and/or represent business market differentiators. Continually enhances knowledge of SAP Basis and Kindred standards in order to achieve departmental success and professional growth. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities 

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve and prevent complex issues. 
• Current working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system software. 
• Applied knowledge and capabilities in demonstrating expert skills with current SQL management tool, including the ability to: Analyze and understand interactions between queries and scripting, perform tuning with understanding of block, query optimizer, and other components, Analyze and understand implications and configuration of databases under heavy loads. 
• Demonstrated successful experience with SAP software skills as related to Basis administration, including advanced ability to install, monitor, update, configure and tune. 
• Superior Windows, SQL Server, and Basis level troubleshooting capabilities to research and analyze issues and strategize with others to develop and implement multiple solutions. 
• Ability to manage projects, ensuring that projects are clearly defined, systematically executed, and results oriented. Adherence to Project Management processes and standards within the organization are required. 
• Established skills to supervise and train staff. 
• Capable of working independently and delivering appropriate feedback to management as required. 
• Approximate percent of time required to travel:   10 

Education 

• Bachelor Degree preferred. 
• Participated in SAP education courses on Advanced Administration. 

Licenses/Certifications 

• Any technical certification that pertains to or enhances job performance. 

Experience 

• Minimum of 5 years SAP BASIS experience required.
