Job Summary

Responsible for leadership and direction of the center therapy programs in clinical and operational excellence and appropriate allocation of resources. The Therapy Director ensures that all therapy services are provided in accordance with policies and procedures and in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supervisory Responsibilities;
  • Makes daily work assignments;
  • Directs the work of employees;
  • Schedules lunch and rest breaks;
  • Authorizes early departure from work;
  • Authorizes overtime;
  • Reassigns employees from one area to another area as center needs dictate;
  • Prepares written evaluations of assigned employees;
  • Enforces center policies with authority to issue Disciplinary Action Reports as needed;
  • Authority to suspend employees for rules violation;
  • Initials time records to authorize variances;
  • Interviews and hires staff;
  • Manages customer service break downs;
  • Participates in training programs and assists in the center new staff orientation program;
  • Assure clinical excellence of the therapy department by facilitation of program development.
  • Ensure financial success of the therapy department by effective management of resources, productivity, and assurance of appropriate coding and billing of therapy services.
  • Measure, analyze, and evaluate clinical outcomes, operational data and communicate results effectively.
  • Professionalism, diplomacy and accuracy in verbal and written communication.
  • Motivate and mentor technical and professional staff to achieve clinical excellence within the rehabilitation department and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Read electronic mail, billing system data, Word and Excel documents to assimilate information and provide appropriate analysis.
  • Coordinate human resource functions of interviews, performance appraisal, required in-service education and other duties related to recruiting, retention and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Responsible for coordination of denial management process.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with all federal and state regulations – including policies and procedure in accordance with the professional code of ethics for each discipline.
  • Provision of patient care consistent with the job description of the individual’s discipline as directed.
  • Maintenance of the physical environment of the rehabilitation department including space allocation equipment maintenance in accordance with OSHA, state policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for orientation to and monitoring of policies and procedures for therapy staff.
  • Treats all patients, visitors, and staff with courtesy.
  • Performs physical activities including standing, lifting (up to 60 pounds unassisted), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting.
  • Attends and participates in in-service training.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years clinical experience in long term care and membership in discipline specific professional organization is preferred.
  • Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers and other center staff. Possess special interest in, and a positive attitude about, working with the geriatric population.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Meets all health requirements, as required by law.
  • This position involve significant physical activities including standing, lifting (up to 60 pounds unassisted), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting. The tasks on this position description marked with an asterisk (*) are those that regularly require these physical activities. Lifting and/or transferring of patients may require use of a lifting device and /or assistance of other staff

Required Education/Experience Education

  • Graduate of an accredited program in Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapy.

Licenses / Certifications

  • State of Florida credentialing /licensure as required.
